New York City bus accident attorney Jonathan C. Reiter outlines three key facts that individuals who have been injured in a bus crash in New York should know.

New York bus accidents contribute to hundreds of injuries each year. Recently, in Syracuse New York, a serious accident involving a New York City bound bus, a tractor-trailer, and a wrecked car occurred, resulting in 27 people becoming injured.

“A Pine Hill Trailways bus with 52 passengers on board was traveling south on I-81 around 2:30 a.m. when it slammed into a car that had just crashed into a guard rail. The bus came to rest in the highway’s left lane just south of Syracuse, the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said.”

Those injured in the accident were stated to have sustained injuries of the face, back, chest, and lower extremity. Alcohol was also reported to be a possible factor in the three-vehicle crash on the New York interstate.

“Twenty-six of the passengers and the bus driver were injured, official said… The injured passengers mostly suffered lower extremity, chest, back and facial injuries, all of them apparently minor, police said. They were transported to hospitals in the 10 ambulances and other emergency vehicles that responded to the crash scene.”

With an estimated 850,000 buses in operation by known bus companies, and thousands of buses traveling on U.S. roads at any given time, it isn’t a surprise to most that bus accidents do occur. What may be surprising; however, is the limited knowledge many injured New York bus accident victims have regarding their legal rights in the aftermath. According to New York bus accident lawyer Jonathan C. Reiter, there are several things injured victims in bus accident cases should always consider that many don’t, including the value in understanding their legal options for financial recovery. The following are three important facts that injured New York bus accident victims should remain cognizant of, as outlined by the attorney.

  • Injured bus accident victims are frequently entitled to compensation for related damages
  • Injured bus accident victims in New York can seek legal representation to protect their legal rights regardless of whether a bus company has instructed them not to, or attempted to persuade them to take an unfair settlement
  • Many bus accidents are linked to bus safety violations

These key considerations can be critical to understanding what steps should be taken after one has been involved in a bus accident in New York. By also following up with a New York bus crash lawyer with questions about a specific bus accident case, injured accident victims can ensure their full civil protection under the law.
