A second major disaster involving a Malaysia Airlines commercial plane has occurred less than six months after a Boeing 777 aircraft operated by the airline went missing, sparking the largest and most costly international search in history. U.S. officials are now saying that on Thursday, another one of the airline’s Boeing 777 planes crashed carrying more than 200 passengers.

“Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine on Thursday morning, according to US intelligence. The plane was carrying 298 people.
This has the potential to become a serious international crisis if the plane was shot down by either the Ukrainian government or by the Russia-backed separatists who are currently fighting in eastern Ukraine.”
