New York, NY–City Baking, LLC has participated in a recall of 781 units of individually wrapped City Baking brand Apple Crumb Cakes. City Baking, LLC is a company located in Long Island City, New York. The federal recall was issued after discovering an undeclared nut ingredient. The Long Island firm became aware of the undeclared nut product when they were notified by a Boston consumer. The recalled apple crumb cakes contained walnuts, but walnuts were not listed on the food label. Persons with allergic reactions, or severe sensitivity, to walnuts can be at risk for serious, life threatening illnesses when products containing nuts are consumed. Safety regulators, with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) www.fda.gov, reported the recall on June 26, 2009. The FDA is an agency under the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) www.hhs.gov . Maintaining the safety of foods, dietary supplements, vaccines, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, blood products, and veterinary products is the main duty of the FDA.
The following item is under federal recall:
– 3.24 oz. City Baking brand Apple Crumb Cakes (individually wrapped) bearing a bag code of either “#161” or “#169” and a “854142000165” UPC code.
The product comes packaged in a transparent plastic wrap. No illnesses or incidents related to the recalled crumb cakes have been reported. The food label has been corrected to reflect accurate ingredients. A complete refund is available to consumers who wish to return the recalled item to City Baking. Consumers can also call the New York firm at 718-392-8514 and request a refund before throwing the product away. Consumers who have been injured as a result of consuming foods containing undeclared nut products may be entitled to compensation for their damages.
