That National Safety Council suggests tips for safe driving in wintry conditions:
- If your rear wheels begin to slide left, look left and steer left and vice versa.
- If the rear wheels begin sliding the other way as you regain your ground, gently turn the wheel toward that side. Do this until your vehicle is under control.
- If your car is out of control, brake gently. If you do not have anti-lock brakes, pump slowly.
- If the front wheels slid, bump your gear into neutral. As the car continues to slide sideways, and you regain traction, steer in the direction you want the vehicle to turn, put the gears in drive and accelerate slowly.
This motor vehicle accident is one of many tragic, unexpected events that occur during the winter season. Car crashes are tragic for all involved especially the loved ones left behind to deal with the emotions, financial issues, and other details.
