The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) www.faa.gov reported to the scene where a single-engine plane crash proved fatal for the pilot and injured the passenger in upstate New York, Sunday afternoon, November 22, 2009, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
FAA spokesman, Jim Peters, reported that the damaged plane, identified as a Piper Cherokee, was found downed in a forested area four miles southwest of the Dutchess County Airport in Wappingers, New York.
The Bedford pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger was flown via medical helicopter to Westchester Medical Center located in Valhalla to be cared for by doctors and nurses for severe injuries.
The small aircraft had reportedly departed from Orange County Airport at 1:14p.m. Sunday afternoon en route to Danbury, when the pilot sent out a distress call that was picked up by FAA officials. The pilot reported an oil pressure problem and announced that he was going to make an emergency landing at Dutchess County Airport.
Authorities identified the pilot as 52-year-old Amir Tirosh, who was also the owner of AirGator Inc., which is a navigation technology company, based in Mount Kisco. The passenger was identified as Daniel Bisk.
This fatal plane wreck was the 32nd aircraft that has crashed in the County since 1965, according to FAA’s records. The plane was reportedly registered to Ayalon Flight Services, part of AirGator, as a 1974 Piper Cherokee.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) www.ntsb.gov continued to investigate the crash.
