New York Personal Injury attorney reports- A cement truck plowed into a store on Canal Street in Manhattan after causing a six vehicle wreck with more than eight people injured around 1p.m. Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2009, announced the Tribeca Trib.
The New York Fire Department (FDNY) reported to the scene where the cement truck sat inside a cell phone store located near the ramp to the Manhattan Bridge. Emergency medical services (EMS) reported to the scene to treat and transport the eight victims of the massive wreck. Four of the victims were treated at the scene, while four others were taken to local hospitals to be treated for more serious injuries by doctors and nurses. Their names were not released.
There were six other vehicles involved in the serious crash, which seemed to have rear-ended one another. FDNY firefighters had to drag the damaged cement truck back out through the front of the store using a winch attached to the back of the fire rescue truck.
According to area witnesses, trucks exiting the Bridge are driving over the posted speed limit. Witnesses also expressed their deep concern and fear about crossing the street near the intersection.
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer and State Senator Daniel Squadron released a statement hours after the wreck and sent out their concerns to the victims and their families. The statement also urged the city’s Department of Transportation to create a safer environment for pedestrians walking in Chinatown.
“This incident is another painful reminder of the deep need to improve pedestrian safety and traffic management in Chinatown,” Stringer and Squadron said in their statement. “We continue to believe it is both possible and imperative to overcome the unique pedestrian safety challenges our community faces.”
New York personal injury accidents greatly impact individuals, families and society at large. Personal injury accidents leave victims with a serious loss due to the reckless and blatant disregard of driver’s awareness for the safety of others. An attorney can help those individuals or families to seek justice and compensation for medical bills, emotional trauma, lost wages, or plausible punitive damages from the driver liable for the harmful conduct that injured or caused them to lose an irreplaceable loved one.
It is important for those who are affected in a personal injury accident to seek a consultation with a qualified New York personal injury attorney who will answer questions, look over the merits of your case, and defend your legal rights.
