New York construction accident fatality alert-A boom lift toppled over in center city Philadelphia at about 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009, killing one construction worker and injuring several other people. As reported by KYW Newsradio 1060, Philadelphia police and fire rescue crews responded to 21st and Walnut Streets in center city Philadelphia when a crane fell over tossing the operator 125 feet to his death.

According to Philadelphia police officials and witnesses at the scene, the 40 year-old crane operator was navigating the boom lift from the cherry-picker basket when the crane fell over. The construction crane operator was pronounced dead shortly after he fell about 125 feet. The crane and falling debris struck an automobile passing by causing injury to one woman in the car. Several other people suffered injuries in the construction accident and multiple structures sustained damages when the crane struck a building as it fell.

Construction accidents can cause serious injury and even death to workers and innocent passersby. Numerous circumstances like negligence, reckless behavior, falling objects, defective scaffolds, defective or malfunctioning equipment, operator error, and failure to follow safety guidelines can lead to injury or death at construction sites.
