New York personal injury lawyer alerts drivers of a defective product recall. According to a press release issued by American Honda Motor Co., the Japanese automobile manufacturer added 440,000 cars with potentially defective driver's side airbags to a current recall. The international automobile maker expanded its current motor vehicle recall after discovering a deficiency in the airbag's inflation system and included certain Honda Accords, Civics, and Acura TL's. Drivers who continue to operate their Honda cars with the possible defective airbag are at risk of serious or even fatal injury if the inflator malfunctions when the airbag deploys.
According to Honda the safety recall, which was initiated in November 2008, requires the replacement of the driver's steering-wheel-mounted airbag inflator. Certain models of 2001-2002 Honda Accord, 2001 Civic, and 2002-2003 Acura TL may have been manufactured with a defective inflator. When the front driver's side airbag inflator deploys, the increased pressure may cause the casing of the inflator to rupture. This may allow metal fragments to pass through the cloth of the airbag cushion and possibly cause injury or even kill the automobile occupants. Owners and operators of Honda and Acura motor vehicles may go to either car makers website's "Owner Link" at Honda www.owners.honda.com/recalls or Acura http://owners.acura.com/recalls/ for vehicle recall status.
